Play Mahjong the way it should be played.
Get the best combination of tiles possible to win the highest prize.
Play as many rounds as you can manage and grow your cash.
Mahjong is a very challenging game, if you play the classic version, that is. Today’s Mahjong games have been watered down to simple “pair them up” games. If you give Hongkong Style Mahjong a try, however, you can get a taste for yourself as to what the real game is like.
In a nutshell, Mahjong is all about setting up your tiles in a way that your earnings are multiplied when you need to open them up, face-down. It’s roughly similar to Rummy, but this involves four players. You take a tile from the stack, see if it helps you make a combination and then discard it if it doesn’t. If it does, you keep the card and throw away one which you think will not help with your earnings at all.
There are various “hands” that you can create here in Mahjong. You can create Pongs, melds that are composed of three tiles that are identical. On the other hand, you also have the Kong, which you can form out of four identical tiles.
You can create sequential melds. The Chow, for instance, is composed of three tiles in sequence and from the same suit.
Just like Rummy, you can get the tiles you need to meld from the ones discarded by other players. However, you have to be quick when it comes to Kongs and Pongs – anyone can grab the tile if they need even if it’s not their turn to play.
The tiles needed for a Chow, however, can be taken from the ones discarded by the player whose turn is immediately before yours.
All of this information can be overwhelming for a beginner, but the game totally simplifies everything by notifying a player if a meld can be made from the discarded tiles in the table. You have the option of simply passing and not making the meld as well if you think it doesn’t have a significant impact on your winnings at all.
When you win (you only have one tile left to discard because all have been consumed with the melds), the game will notify you as well so you can end the game and collect your winnings.
With the notification feature in place, it becomes possible even for those who know nothing about Hong Kong Style Mahjong to understand the gameplay mechanics. People can now have fun with Mahjong without having to do a lot of research now.
If you want to play the game for real, then, perhaps you’d really need to study but not in this case.
Best of all, you can enjoy the game anywhere you may be as long as there’s a working Internet connection. That’s because Hong Kong Style Mahjong is a mobile-based game that you can download via your operating system’s app store. That would be Play Store for Android users, and iTunes for iOS devices.
